Against the backdrop of the enchanting Batsi on the island of Andros, Plegma NGO would like to invite everyone on a journey across the musical and dancing tradition and folklore culture of the Aegean, from the 15th to the 17th of June.
This 3-day experiential program includes:
folk dance seminars (Andros, Paros, Naxos, Kythnos dances)
music workshops (violin, lyra, tsabouna, santouri)
interactive lectures on folklore subjects
participation in an island and a traditional “” (an informal evening gathering at a friend’s home that ends up with singing and dancing”
of traditional Aegean products (traditional dishes and sweets, wine, raki, herbs, etc).
The artistic director of Aegean Methexis is violin virtuoso Nikos Oikonomidis, who has extensive knowledge and experience in the music of the Aegean islands, whereas scientific supervisor of the program is Dr. Ekaterini Polymerou-Kamilaki, former Director and scientific associate of the Hellenic Folklore Research Center.
During their free time, participants will have the opportunity to explore the traditional villages and the island’s hiking trails, as well as swim in the amazing beaches of Andros, which according to poet Andreas Empeirikos is “the island of beauty, the Queen of the Aegean, the most beautiful of the world.
Aegean Methexis is being held under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Region of South Aegean, the Municipality of Andros, the International Festival of Andros and the Andros Cycladic Tourism Network, It has also been included in the Cyclades Culture 2018 events program and awarded the label of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018.
